LEXICON AND INTERLINEAR BIBLE
Lexicons and interlinear Bibles are specialized tools used to study the original Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) languages of the Bible.
Original vs. Translated
An interlinear Bible displays the original biblical text with an English translation directly below (or above) each word. Typically includes the original language script, a transliteration (how to pronounce it), and a literal word-for-word translation. It allows readers to see the exact word order and grammatical structure of the original text compared to modern translations.
Dictionary
A lexicon is a linguistic dictionary for the Bible’s original languages. Unlike a standard dictionary, it provides deeper insights into a word’s etymology, root meaning, and how it was used in ancient cultural contexts. Most interlinears use "Strong’s Numbers," a system that assigns a unique number to every Hebrew and Greek word. You can click these numbers in an interlinear to jump directly to that word’s entry in a lexicon.
